  • BRITTEN: Simple Symphony, Op. 4

  • HOLLIGER: Eisblumen
  • MOZART: Horn concerto
  • HAYDN: Symphony No. 49 in F minor, “La Passione”

On behalf of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, we regret to inform you that the Basel Chamber Orchestra concert, originally scheduled for Friday, March 4, 2022, has been cancelled.

Due to COVID restrictions, Basel Chamber Orchestra had to cancel their United States tour.

Instead, we are pleased to offer a concert featuring the San Diego Symphony, led by music director Rafael Payare and joined by trumpeter Pacho Flores on Friday, February 25.

There will be a pre-concert lecture by Brian Lauritzen at 7pm.

The Basel Chamber Orchestra is one of the most respected ensembles across the globe, appearing regularly at every prominent chamber music festival and in international concert halls such as the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and the Theater an der Wien in Vienna. Voted Best Ensemble at the 2008 Echo Klassik Awards, this Swiss chamber group has consistently received praise for its performances combining historical period pieces and contemporary works.

Whether imposing or tripping along daintily, the Basel Chamber Orchestra was a well-oiled machine, unflagging and superbly disciplined.
