  • Andrew NORMAN: Difference (West Coast premiere)

  • More to be announced.

The second concert of the Festival features yMusic, a chamber ensemble of "six contemporary polymaths who playfully overstep the boundaries of musical genres" (The New Yorker), on stage with Chris Thile. The program will feature the West Coast premiere of Difference, written by Grawemeyer Award-winning composer Andrew Norman, hailed as “the leading American composer of his generation” by the Los Angeles Times.

New York City-based chamber ensemble yMusic consists of a unique configuration: string trio, flute, clarinet, and trumpet. The group has collaborated and toured extensively with artists such as José González, Ben Folds, Bill T. Jones, Bon Iver, and Paul Simon, and inspired original works by some of today’s foremost composers, including Nico Muhly, Missy Mazzoli and Andrew Norman. In 2016, yMusic made its Carnegie Hall debut performing works from its critically acclaimed albums Beautiful Mechanical and Balance Problems, and premieres of new works by Chris Thile and Caroline Shaw.
