National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine combines popular classics like Beethoven’s Fifth with works by Ukrainian composers Bortniansky and Silvestrov. Rising star violinist Dmytro Udovychenko, first prize winner of the 2024 Queen Elisabeth Competition, joins the orchestra for Bruch’s Violin Concerto.
Formed in 1918, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine is considered to be one of the finest symphony orchestras in Eastern Europe. The Orchestra has gained international recognition over a remarkably short period of time. Since 1993, the NSOU has released more than 100 recordings including both Ukrainian and international repertoire, of which several received the highest acclaim. In 1994, the Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) rated NSOU’s recording of Borys Liatoshynskyi’s Symphonies No. 2 and No. 3 as “The Best Recording of the Year.” The CD of Sylvestrov’s “Requiem for Larissa” was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2005, followed by the recording of Bloch and Lees’ Violin Concertos being nominated for a Grammy four years later.
A rising young concert artist of outstanding potential, violinist Dmytro Udovychenko has been receiving attention worldwide after winning First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Third Prize at the Sibelius Competition and First Prize at the Singapore and Montréal Competitions. In 2022 he was accepted into the class of Christian Tetzlaff at the Kronberg Academy.
