This concert brings together two celebrated forces in classical music: violinist Midori, revered for her rare combination of virtuosity and insight, and the Festival Strings Lucerne, one of Europe’s most distinguished chamber orchestras.

A new work by Swiss composer Helena Winkelman offers a fresh, compelling voice, bridging past and present. The program concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2, a composition of youthful exuberance and joyful defiance, written at a turning point in the composer’s life.

The orchestra’s mighty brass and fabled, rich-toned strings showed their strength.

The Guardian (on Festival Strings Lucerne)

Midori’s interpretation, in a word, was simply magical... No encore was needed; the audience was already speechless.
