The Committees of the Philharmonic Society are the Society's principal fund raising and volunteer force. More than 70,000 hours of in-kind service are provided each year by the 800 volunteer members in developing, implementing and evaluating the music education programs. The Committees also present a wide variety of fundraising events, including the Philharmonic House of Design and the Huntington Harbour Cruise of Lights®.

Each of our 16 Committees and 5 groups participates in one or more of the following county-wide endeavors:

- Philharmonic House of Design
- Huntington Harbour Cruise of Lights®

- Ushering at 2nd and 5th grade concerts
- Taking the Music Mobile to schools to introduce the instruments of the Orchestra
- Docenting at California Journeys

Our Committees raise funds in imaginative and delightful ways. Bringing education programs to schools within our areas is a vital part of our mission.

There are a wide variety of groups to choose from, and at least one will meet at a time and place convenient to you. Each committee has its own unique personality! Read what we say about ourselves and feel free to visit one or all as our guest.

Location: Huntington Harbour and surrounding area
Meetings: 3rd Thursday, meeting times vary from group to group

The Huntington Harbour Philharmonic Committee is a large and active group dedicated to our mission to support music education for the youth of Orange County. Each year we raise significant funds through our annual holiday Cruise of Lights®, offering the public the opportunity to view the beautiful lighting displays with a narrated boat ride through Huntington Harbour. We also stage a Shopping Boutique in the Fall.

The Huntington Harbour Committee consists of 5 different groups, each with its own personality.

Admiralty Group
Admiralty is the oldest Committee in Huntington Harbour and the surrounding area and one of the few that have male members too. We meet the third Thursday of each month for lunch and drinks prepared by our members. Meetings are Sept. to June and we take the summer off. Join us to usher children at concerts such as the Disneyland band, or visit schools in our Music Mobile, or get jolly helping at the famous Cruise of Lights! It’s a lot of fun, and we certainly will welcome you as a member and a new friend.

Our members participate in all of our fundraisers to raise the much needed funds to support children’s music programs throughout Orange County. Location: South Orange County
Meetings: 2nd Thursday, 9:30am-11:30am

The Saddleback Valley Committee was founded in 1972. Our diverse members come from business, teaching and other backgrounds and are dedicated to increasing the knowledge and appreciation of music in school children. We are a fun, active group that supports each other in our many activities. Our yearly fundraisers can vary as we are always looking for new and creative ideas to raise money for the Philharmonic Society. Our members have served on the Executive Board and in other leadership roles as well as volunteering many hours ushering at various youth concerts. In addition, we take on a number of roles at the annual Philharmonic House of Design including docenting, cashiering, and ticket sales. We bring music programs out to the schools in the Saddleback and Capistrano Valley school districts via the Music Mobile, a small van loaded with instruments and teaching materials. We enjoy both working and playing together at our annual summer barbecue and holiday parties. Monthly meetings are held from September through June at members’ homes and usually include musical programs and field trips. Please join us!

Location: Santa Ana and Tustin
Meetings: 3rd Tuesday, 6:30pm

Our committee meets in a member’s home. September is a potluck and May is catered followed by installation of new officers. Other months, we get together at 6:30 for a social time followed by a meeting to inform each other of upcoming activities. At each meeting we have a program of interest, usually a musical performance. Our main fundraiser is an Author's Luncheon in January to help support music in the schools. We also can be seen ushering for the 2nd and 5th grade concerts in the spring and as docents at the House of Design. Many members enjoy taking the Music Mobile to elementary schools and presenting orchestral instruments to 3rd grade students and listening to the excitement evident in students as they learn about a violin or other instrument we make available to them. Many of us enjoy attending other committees’ fund raisers, the Fall Kick-Off in September, and the Annual Meeting in May.

By working together to support the goals of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, we each gain the personal satisfaction of helping to bring a love of music to many children who may not otherwise have that opportunity. We always welcome new members!

To join a group of fun-loving and dedicated volunteers, join the TOWN & COUNTRY PHILHARMONIC COMMITTEE.

Location: Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and surrounding areas
Meetings: 4th Monday, 10:00am (2nd Monday in November and May)

From September to May, we meet on the 4th Monday at 10:00am. Due to the holidays we meet on the 3rd Monday in November and May and skip the December meeting. Upper Bay Members take turn offering their homes or bringing refreshments. We enjoy "Coffee & Goodies" from 10 to 10:30am, followed by a short business meeting. Then, students from the Music department at UCI present great music programs: strings, piano or voice until 12 noon.

We put a value on our "free time," we simply write a check in March for our Committee's fundraising event. That month, Dr. John Mangum, PSOC President and Artistic Director, is our guest speaker. He “takes us behind the scenes” with updates on the coming concerts and new musical school programs, etc.

Our members are from Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa and Irvine. We form a small and friendly international group united by our love of music and desire to bring it to the children of Orange County. New members are always welcome.
