Opening Night of the Society's 61st season features the London Philharmonic Orchestra and pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet conducted by Vladimir Jurowski. Founded in 1932, the London Philharmonic has a distinguished history of diverse programming and artistic excellence. In 2012, the orchestra performed as part of The Queen's Diamond Jubilee Pageant and was also chosen to record all the world's national anthems for the London 2012 Olympics. The orchestra has also recorded the soundtracks to numerous blockbuster films, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Lawrence of Arabia, Hugo, and The Hobbit; An Unexpected Journey.

Winner of Gramophone's 2014 Concerto award, pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is celebrated for the breathtaking clarity of his performances. His extensive recordings have earned him several Gramophone awards and BBC Music Magazine awards, as well as the Choc du Monde de la Musique and he Diapason d'Or. Bavouzet was named Artist of the Year at the 2012 International Classical Music Awards.
