On September 17, 2006, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County held its inaugural concert at the beautiful new Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, honoring one of the greatest composers of all time, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with an all-Mozart program featuring the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg. Designed by internationally esteemed architect Cesar Pelli and renowned acoustician, Russell Johnson of Artec, the 2,000-seat concert hall was built specifically for symphonic music – the ideal environment for the Society’s classical presentations.
The landmark structure features a 300-by-87-foot glass façade, giving a clear view from both the interior and exterior of the hall. The silver metal and glass staircase invites you to view the lobby from its many levels. The ceiling is illuminated with reflective silver leaf, and includes a custom designed chandelier made of 300 individually suspended silver pendants finished with Baccarat crystal spheres.
Inside the concert hall, three silver-leafed acoustical canopies are positioned above the orchestra platform. Among other acoustical elements of the new concert hall are triple thick draperies, hidden in recessed pockets of the walls, that can easily be deployed to meet the acoustical preferences of artists. Behind the orchestra platform and choral seating is a silver-leafed C.B. Fisk concert pipe organ, providing fluid movement in design.
The new Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall will be the new home for the Society's magnificent presentations. Join us as we experience the very best music has to offer!
