The Mandelring Quartet
continues the Society’s Beethoven: The Late Great celebration with a performance of Beethoven’s String Quartet in A minor, Op. 132. Written while Beethoven was ill in the spring of 1825, Op. 132 is a soulful reflection of this period of illness and recovery in the composer’s life. Comprised of the three Schmidt siblings and violist Roland Glassl, the Mandelring Quartet came to international attention after winning the ARD International Music Competition as well as the Premio Paolo Borciani International String Quartet Competition.
The Mandelring Quartet has produced numerous CD recordings, which have repeatedly been awarded the German Music Critics’ Prize and nominated for the International Classical Music Award. Their recording of the complete Shostakovich string quartets cycle has been hailed by the press as one of the outstanding complete recordings of our time.
